2007-2008 Creative Dramatics Classes

Our Creative Dramatics classes are open to students ages 4 through fifth grade. Each semester presents unique curriculum presented in sequence, though classes may be taken out of sequence. Our teaching artists are experienced teaching professionals as well as artists, adept at working with young children in a variety of performing arts genres.   Registration begins August 1, 2007 for the entire '07- '08 school year. 

A note about class sizes and age groupings: we maintain firm class sizes and age groupings.  Most classes will have 16 or fewer students and be grouped by grade level.  Register early to assure your spot for the year.

'07-'08 Conservatory Year Calendar -- Session Dates and Information

Preschool Parade (ages 4 - 5)

Join the parade on Wednesday and Friday mornings as we set off on a course of fun and adventure, using performing arts as our lens on the world around us. We'll use the amazing resources in the Tacoma community from museums to our very own theatres and bring our experiences back to the classroom to create worlds of our own. Fairy tales to folk tales, puppetry, mask-making and movement-the world is our palette for dramatic inspiration! More information...

KinderCapers (ages 6 -- grade 1)

Explore drama through poetry, song, folk tales, puppetry and movement. Class builds self-esteem and allows kids to use their natural creativity as we explore what goes in to making and telling a good story. We'll use our imaginations to take us to far away worlds and discover the power in telling our own stories. More information...

 

The Play's the Thing (K -- grade 5)

Bring your creativity, your dreams and a little goofiness to this action-packed playwriting extravaganza. Watch out world, we'll voyage to the outer limits of our imagination as we deconstruct the elements of a good story and construct own using a multi-sensory props, literature, movement and visual art. Tell me a Story (K -- grade 5)

If reading a good story makes you happy, then this class is for you! Based on children's literature favorites, we'll read a new story each week and then make the story come to life as we adapt it for our classroom stage. We'll dig into all kinds of props and costumes and test our skills by creating a few stories of our own! More information...

 

Shake Your Groove Thing (grades 1 -- 4)

Movement and drama go hand-in-hand. Experience movement-based drama and poetry in this engaging class taught by the founders of Barefoot Studios in Tacoma . We'll work in many different movement styles as we develop our skills in both improvisation and creating character. More information...

Fairies and Toads (grades K-- 2)

Do you love fairy tales? Want to be a part of the action? Fairies and Toads is a magical adventure into the land of fairies and world of toads. We'll use well-known fairy tales (not the movie versions!) as our starting point in exploring story structure, character and old-fashioned make believe. More information...
