2007-2008 Season Announcement

 

Tacoma , WA - In the midst of an exciting rejuvenation, Broadway Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA) announces the 2007-2008 season of performances, which doubles the number of offerings throughout the year for both presentations to the general public and to students and teachers. Additionally, the 2007-2008 Season marks the 24 th year of presenting performing arts in the Tacoma community and commemorates the 90 th birthday of both the Pantages and Rialto Theaters in 2008. The many changes within the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts are a reflection of commitment to connect people in the heart of Tacoma .

 

Beginning the season in late September, three headlines will appear in highlights. Including opening night with Cirqueworks Birdhouse Factory , a breathtaking show created by former stars of Cirque du Soleil, Pickle Family Circus and Moscow Circus performers. Followed by Dark Star Orchestra: Recreating the Grateful Dead Experience and Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano in honor of Mexican Independence Day. With more stand-outs throughout the season other performances include CBS late-night talk show host Craig Ferguson, A Prairie Home Companions' Garrison Keillor , Former U.S. Poet-Laureate Billy Collins , comedian Josh Blue , music's renaissance man Bobby McFerrin and 40 more events between September 2007 through June 2008.

 

“This season symbolizes the new Broadway Center . We're changing organizationally and deepening relevance with the residents of the South Sound. For generations, we've been the area's community gathering place. Today we're declaring our commitment to connect people in the heart of Tacoma and we plan to do just that in everything we do!,” said David Fischer , BCPA Executive Director.

 

Broadway Center is recognized for its leadership in presenting world-class performing artists, providing the largest performing arts education programs in Washington State , and preserving Tacoma 's historic theaters. This season, the BCPA will double the number of school-time matinees. More importantly, all education performances are carefully selected to meet the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements. The BCPA will increase the opportunities for teachers, educating how to best implement and incorporate the arts into their classrooms. Through the new Broadway Center Conservatory, students of all ages will experience the performing arts.

 

Further, the BCPA is home to many of Tacoma 's Resident Arts Organizations (RAOs): Puget Sound Revels, Northwest Sinfonietta, Tacoma City Ballet, Tacoma Concert Band, Tacoma Philharmonic, Tacoma Opera, Tacoma School of the Arts, Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, and Tacoma Youth Symphony Association. The BCPA is committed offering the best service to the RAOs through extended community dialogues on programming, more group collaborations, and through the constant state of readiness and attention to ongoing facility maintenance.

The BCPA new membership program to allow patrons to enjoy advance ticket purchases and ensures the best seats in the house, ticket discounts, and many, many other benefits and savings.
