Broadway Center presents Sunday Matinee
Tribute to Jazz and Swing Legend – Benny Goodman
With Grammy Award-winner Eddie Daniels in Benny and Beyond
Tacoma, WA – Grammy Award-winning clarinetist, Eddie Daniels and his remarkable band will pay tribute to the jazz and swing legend Benny Goodman on Sunday, March 30 at 3:00pm in the Rialto Theater.
Eddie Daniels will recreate and add his personal touch to the remarkable work of Benny Goodman. Noted for mastering Goodman’s energy, phrasing and style, Eddie Daniels: Benny and Beyond also features reminiscent stories of Goodman’s history. Recalling the era of Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw from his own modern perspective, Daniels breathes new life into such classics as “Stompin’ at the Savoy”, “Sing Sing Sing”, “Begin the Beguine” and “Stardust”, as well as some originals.
Daniels began his jazz career as tenor saxophonist playing with the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra. With a single clarinet solo recording, Daniels garnered sufficient attention in 1968 earning Downbeat Magazine’s International Critics New Star on Clarinet award. His transition between saxophone and clarinet, was not surprising as Daniels had began studying clarinet at age 13 and received his Masters in Clarinet from Juilliard. Daniels has performed along with Cincinnati Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Indianapolis Symphony and with Boston Pops for Public Television.
Daniels is a rare musician as he excels at both with breathtaking virtuosity in both jazz and classical music. His intention is to reach as many people as possible through his music and ultimately share the energy of these combined genres.
