New York’s The Acting Company Features Tacoma Native in Two Shows:
Moby Dick ‘Rehearsed’ and The Tempest at the Broadway Center
Sponsored by Russell Investments
Tacoma, WA – Beginning February 6 through February 9, 2008, New York’s The Acting Company will present two shows at Theatre on the Square that feature Tacoma native, David Foubert. This four day performance run begins with Moby Dick ‘Rehearsed’ on February 6 & 7 at 7:30pm and concludes with Shakespeare’s The Tempest on February 8 at 7:30pm and February 9 at 3:00pm and 7:30pm.
During the first two days of residency, theatre enthusiast will love the adapted Herman Melville classic and one of the great accomplishments in American literature, Orson Welles’ Moby Dick ‘Rehearsed’. The play is a hybrid version of Herman Melville's novel, which draws a parallel between King Lear and Captain Ahab. The performance follows a troupe of actors that abandon their play about one unforgiving, vengeance obsessed man - King Lear - to recreate another of the same emotional stripe - Captain Ahab. The tyrannical actor-manager leads his crew to Captain Ahab’s fateful voyage across the open seas aboard the Pequod in search of the great white whale, Moby Dick.
For the final two days, The Acting Company presents the play that was hailed as a stunning climax to the career of England’s favorite dramatist, William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Praising the glories of reconciliation and forgiveness, The Tempest premiered in 1611 and encompasses themes of love, tragedy and comedy in equal measure. The performance follows an usurped wizard, who draws his enemies to his enchanted island to exact revenge and in turn finds peace and the ability to forgive. Some believe that Prospero’s final speeches signify Shakespeare’s personal adieu from the stage.
Originally from Tacoma, David Foubert moved to the east coast to obtain his M.F.A. from the University of Delaware's Professional Theatre Training Program. Foubert has appeared in The Acting Company’s Three Musketeers and Macbeth. His other credits include: As You Like It, Hamlet, The Crucible, Comedy of Errors, and Julius Caesar (NC Shakespeare Festival). Foubert has also made appearances on television in Shakespeare on Security, All My Children and Come See the Paradise. Foubert will appear as Elijah and Flask in Moby Dick ‘Rehearsed’, and as Stephano in The Tempest.
Since its founding by the legendary John Houseman and Margot Harley in 1972, The Acting Company has performed 127 productions touring to 48 states and ten foreign countries, and is currently touring in 44 communities in 26 states. The Acting Company has played an integral role in some of today’s hottest stars’ careers, with alumni including Kevin Kline, Patti LuPone, Jesse L. Martin, Frances Conroy, David Ogden Stiers, Jeffrey Wright and Rainn Wilson.
