Mariachi Vargas are renowned as the definitive mariachi ensemble, and its classic sound has won the group numerous awards and accolades, including the title of "World's Best Mariachi" since the 1950s. The band actively participates in international mariachi festivals in order to promote the pride of the genre and encourage young mariachis to pursue lifelong careers. For five generations Mariachi Vargas has endured as the quintessential mariachi, appearing in more than 200 films and making numerous recordings.

The Wenatchee School District’s Mariachi Program has over 300 students district wide, 100 of which are Wenatchee High School students. Mariachi Huenachi is the advanced mariachi music class at Wenatchee High School and has earned a reputation as the best high school mariachi in the State of Washington. Last year the group performed at over 40 events and festivals including the Seattle Seahawks, Mariners, and Chivas de Guadalajara games, Washington State University, University of Idaho, Orcas Island, Space Needle, Folklife Festival, EMP, and for Governor Gregoire. In summer of 2009, Mariachi Huenachi shared the stage with the renowned group Los Tigres Del Norte.

Originalmente fundado por Don Gaspar Vargas, Manuel Mendoza y dos violinistas en el municipio de Tecalitlán, Mexico en 1897, dicho mariachi ha participado musicalmente en mas de 200 peliculas, han grabado decenas de discos de diversos generos como: pasodobles, valses, bailables, polkas y danzones, asi como haber realizado colaboraciones estelares con grandes estrellas de la musica como Juan Gabriel y Linda Ronstadt.
Hoy el Mariachi se compone de tres trompetas, un arpa, una vihuela, guitarra, guitarron, guitarra y cinco violines, aunado a un nuevo sonido el cual ha logrado atravesar fronteras internacionales. Su musica hoy en dia oscila desde sones tradicionales hasta obras clasicas, asi como otros estilos que siguen conquistando a su publico en todo el mundo.
