Artistic Partner Eric Jacobsen returns to the Sinfonietta, pairing two symphonies which showcase the Germanic musical language. Mozart's Symphony No. 29 is one of the most popular of his earlier works, exemplifying his mastery of form and musical language. It was called "a landmark... [in] its combination of an intimate, chamber music style with a still fiery and impulsive manner" by musicologist Stanley Sadie.

The second half features a Northwest premier arrangement of the Fourth Symphony of Gustav Mahler. While Mahler's works are known to be grand- requiring dozens of musicians- the fourth is by far his most intimate and 'Mozart-like' in character. This arrangement for 26 musicians preserves the complex writing while creating a new, intimate experience closer to the traditional chamber orchestra of Mozart's era.

MOZART Symphony No. 29 in A major, K. 201 [1774]
MAHLERSymphony No. 4 in G major [1900]
