Broadway Center presents
L.A. Theatre Works’
Still a memorable story of female empowerment and resilience more than thirty years after it premiered. At turns both laugh-out-loud funny and deeply emotional, Steel Magnolias reveals the strength of the human condition and our shared need for companionship. Within the walls of Truvy’s beauty shop, set in the deep Bayou of Louisiana, are six women whose lives increasingly hinge on the existence of one another. Together, they absorb the passing seasons, just like the weathered wooden structure of the salon “home” that they share. Known for the popular film, this L.A. Theatre Works national tour of Steel Magnolias is a tour de force featuring an all female cast in a commanding staged reading performance.
The production will feature television, film and theater actresses including:
Patti Yasutake (Clairee) has had a 30 year career in television and film including as a regular in the Star Trek film and television universe. Television guest appearances have included NCIS, ER, Cold Case, Grey’s Anatomy, The Closer, and many others.
Truvy will be played by Elisa Bocanegra whose theater performances include those for the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and the Roundabout Theatre Company in New York and on television in Undecided and Gilmore Girls. Returning LA Theatre Works actors include Shannon Holt (Judgment at Nuremberg) as Ouiser and Cerris Morgan-Moyer (Pride & Prejudice) as Annelle. Monica McSwain will play the role of Shelby and Brian Kite will direct.
